A WSDL is XML, but it is a particularly dense kind of XML: heavy with namespace prefixes, long type definitions, and deeply nested binding declarations, and very often delivered as a single unformatted line by whatever generated it. Working out which operations a service exposes, or which message a port type expects, is painful in that state. This WSDL formatter re-indents the document so the structure of types, messages, port types, bindings, and services becomes visible, preserving every namespace declaration and attribute exactly as written. Paste the definition you fetched from a ?wsdl endpoint and read it properly. It is the fastest way to orient yourself in an unfamiliar SOAP service before writing a client against it. Formatting happens in your browser, so definitions describing internal endpoints are never uploaded anywhere.

Features

  • ✓Indents WSDL documents so service structure is visible
  • ✓Preserves namespace prefixes and declarations exactly
  • ✓Handles types, messages, portTypes, bindings, and services
  • ✓Keeps embedded XSD schema sections intact
  • ✓Reports well-formedness errors with position
  • ✓Configurable indentation width
  • ✓Copes with large, machine-generated definitions
  • ✓Fully client-side — internal endpoints stay private

Why use this wsdl formatter?

  • Makes an unfamiliar SOAP service quick to understand
  • Preserves the namespace detail that WSDL depends on
  • Keeps internal service definitions off third-party servers
  • Instant formatting regardless of document size
  • Free with no signup

Frequently asked questions

What is a WSDL file?

A Web Services Description Language document is an XML file describing a SOAP web service — the operations it exposes, the messages they exchange, the data types involved, and the endpoint addresses to call.

Why is WSDL so hard to read unformatted?

WSDL relies heavily on namespace prefixes and nests type, message, and binding definitions several levels deep. Without indentation those relationships are invisible.

Does formatting change the definition?

No. Only whitespace between elements is adjusted. Namespace declarations, attributes, and embedded schema content are preserved exactly.

Can I format a WSDL fetched from a live endpoint?

Yes. Append ?wsdl to the service URL, copy the response, and paste it here. Nothing is uploaded, so internal endpoint definitions stay private.

Does this validate the WSDL against the specification?

It checks XML well-formedness rather than WSDL-specific rules. A structurally sound document can still be an invalid service definition.

Are embedded XSD schemas preserved?

Yes. Inline schema sections inside wsdl:types are indented along with the rest of the document and left semantically unchanged.
