YAML's readability comes at a price: indentation is structural, a tab character where spaces were expected is a hard error, and a colon inside an unquoted value can silently change what the document means. Editing it in a plain textarea is how broken CI pipelines and rejected Kubernetes manifests happen. This YAML editor gives you syntax highlighting so nesting is visible, and validation that parses as you work and reports the exact line where the document stops making sense. Paste a manifest, a CI configuration, a Docker Compose file, or an application config, make your changes, and copy it back out with confidence that it still parses. Because everything runs client-side, secrets and internal hostnames in the file never leave your browser — which is exactly the kind of content YAML configuration tends to contain.
Indentation defines structure, so a single misplaced space changes meaning. Tab characters are not permitted for indentation at all, and unquoted values containing colons or hashes can parse as something unintended.
No. The YAML specification forbids tabs for indentation. Use spaces — two per level is the most common convention.
Yes. Documents separated by --- are handled, which is common in Kubernetes manifests that declare several resources in one file.
No. Editing and validation happen entirely in your browser, so files containing credentials or internal hostnames stay on your machine.
YAML infers types, so yes, no, on, off, and unquoted numbers may not stay strings. Quote the value if you need it preserved as text.
Yes. Use the YAML to JSON converter once the document parses cleanly, or YAML to XML and YAML to CSV for other targets.
