The home row - A S D F J K L ; - is where your fingers rest between keystrokes and is the foundation every touch-typing technique is built on. This drill generates words and letter combinations using only home-row characters, so you can build strong, accurate muscle memory for these eight keys before layering in the rest of the keyboard. The finger-placement guide stays visible throughout, reinforcing which finger belongs on which key. Spend a few focused sessions here before moving on to Number Row Practice or Symbol Typing Practice - a solid home row is what makes everything reached from it faster and more accurate.
A, S, D, F, J, K, L, and semicolon (;) - these are the keys your eight fingers rest on between keystrokes in standard touch-typing technique.
Every other key is reached by moving a finger away from and back to its home-row position, so strong home-row muscle memory makes all subsequent typing faster and more accurate.
Once home row feels comfortable, move on to Number Row Practice, Symbol Typing Practice, or general Typing Practice, which mixes the full keyboard.
